Nothing is more satisfying and refreshing than a nourishing green smoothie! Smoothies are a great addition to a keto diet as they provide an additional boost of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fats. They’re also incredibly versatile and can be made for a nutritious breakfast, snack, or anytime you’re craving a refreshing drink.
Feel free to substitute the coconut and almond milk for your preferred milk options or take some ingredients out based on your preferences. Note that the nutritional profile will change if this occurs (however, the unique combination of ingredients in this smoothie is what makes it taste so delicious!)
While most smoothies are traditionally made with a lot of fruit and can be higher in sugar, this vibrantly green keto avocado smoothie is full of good fats to keep your brain and body healthy.
Avocados are low in carbs but contain even more potassium than bananas! This nutrient-packed powerhouse boasts over 20 different vitamins and minerals and is full of heart-healthy fatty acids. This fruit tastes creamy and delicious while also packing a healthy punch!
Coconut milk is a great milk alternative as it’s creamy, smooth, and comes with that signature coconut taste. Like other coconut byproducts, including coconut cream and water, coconut milk has many benefits, including stimulating weight loss and boosting our immune system!
The inclusion of avocado and coconut milk makes this smoothie taste incredibly decadent (with none of the guilt!). Balance this out by adding a pinch of freshness with some mint, cilantro, and lime juice.
While it might seem odd to include herbs like mint and cilantro in this smoothie, their subtly sweet-yet-spicy taste works well to combat the richness of the other ingredients. Herbs also contain plant compounds that have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.
This smoothie contains no added sugar or sweetness from other fruits, like berries. However, the delicately sweet notes of almond milk and vanilla extract enhance the other ingredients’ flavors.
Don’t forget to add in some ice cubes to make it extra cold and refreshing!
