Carla Walker Lost 52 Lbs and Her Husband’s A1C Is Now Normal!

Keto Diet Success Stories > Health & Fitness

Hi Craig!

Yours was the first website I started with when I started looking into the Keto diet. It was easy to understand, and full of information, and tools. I downloaded the 14 day meal plan and took it with me when I went shopping. It didn’t take long for me to get the gist of the diet, and I was blessed to not have the keto flu, and seemed to adjust pretty easily. So far this is the easiest diet I’ve been on.

I started January 3, 2015, at 260lbs. I have slowed down a bit over the summer since I can’t take being really active in the heat, but I’ve come down to 208 lbs this morning. In May 2015, I completed (walking) a 5K with energy to spare!

My husband waited to see how I’d do with it, but then started in February 2015, at first low carb and eventually with guidance he finally got into keto. He was 260 also, and is now weighing 218.

The best part though is that he is (was) diabetic with high blood pressure. He started keto in February. When he saw his endocrinologist in May, his A1C had dropped from 6.4 to 5.4.  Normal in only 3 months! His blood pressure and cholesterol were also better.  3 months later, in August, he was still 5.4.  Blood pressure in normal limits, cholesterol even better, and the Dr agreed to take him off half his meds!

Sending you pics of before…last September 2014. Pics after were taken last week.

Carla (-52lbs) and Steve Walker (-42lbs, normal blood sugars, normal BP)

What is your favorite recipe from Ruled.me?
My favorite recipe from ruled.me is probably the chocolate mug cake. It got us through many a tough night.

What is your favorite ingredient to use when making ketogenic recipes?
My favorite ingredient seems to be heavy cream. It always puts a smile on my face when I use it.

What is/was your motivation to keep on track?
My motivation to keep on track is the weight I’ve already lost, and the health improvements my husband and I have experienced.

Did you ever encounter a stall? If so, how did you get over it?
I did get stalled for about 2 months, at around 234 lbs. My husband seems to be currently stalled at 219. I got over mine simply by waiting it out and making sure I got enough fat daily.

How did you hear about keto, and why did you start?
I heard about ketosis originally from “my low carb life” fb page, which shared posts showing such different before and after pics, that I started looking into it.

In what aspects has your life changed since going keto?
The aspects of my life…different shopping lists, less meals, happier meals which I feel better afterwards, more energy, better sleep. Ditto for my husband, plus his health improvements.

What piece of advice would you offer to people that are just starting out on keto?
The advice I offer newbies…track your macros until your comfortable, always keep keto friendly snacks available, fat bombs are your friend, probiotics and magnesium supplements.

What did you personally do in your first 2 weeks of keto? (i.e. Drink broth, go for a walk, throw food out, etc.)
In the first 2 weeks I cleaned out the really bad stuff from the pantry, shopped and stocked with the good stuff, read as much on it as I could, joined a good FB group, and tracked everything through MyFitnessPal.
